You are invited to join the Bailliage of Greater Washington, DC, as we bring in two New Years – 2026, and the Chinese Year of the Fire Horse, which begins the following month – with a Chaîne on the Edge event! We will enjoy a dim sum brunch accompanied by Champagne from the bailliage’s wine cellar, at China Garden Han Gong in Rockville. China Garden has been serving authentic Hong Kong style dim sum since 1973. Due to popular demand, we are returning to China Garden for our fifth year! We will enjoy a variety of steamed, fried, and baked dishes that feature poultry, pork, seafood, and vegetables, all selected especially for us.

There is complimentary parking across the street validated by the restaurant.

Registration deadline is January 10th at noon or until the event is sold out.

Please note: The menu will include dishes that contain pork, seafood, eggs, gluten, and vegetables, among other ingredients. Because of the nature of this event, we are not able to accommodate food allergies or dietary restrictions or guarantee that there will be no cross contamination. Substitutions will not be possible. Since everything is served family style, you may select what you wish and avoid other dishes.

Please note that all attendees other than the DC Chaîne Member and his or her first guest must pay the guest price, even if they are members of another Chaîne Bailliage. This is because the local dues of the DC Chaîne subsidize the cost of the wine and overhead for events, resulting in a lower price for DC Bailliage members. Please join the Bailliage of Greater Washington for a geography-free event as we explore the history of candy as a gift of love, friendship and courtship.

Susan Benjamin, the world’s only scholar on the history of candy will be meeting with us on Zoom.

Please be sure to note the registration deadline as we need to give enough time to ship the candy to you in time for this event. All prices include shipping. When you register, be sure to email Judy Mazza (bailli@laChaineDC.com) with your preferred shipping address.

A Guided Journey: Award-winning culinary historian Susan Benjamin explores the history of candy as a gift of love, friendship, and courtship.

Delivered Sweets: Each registrant receives a curated delivery of vintage candies, including historic aphrodisiacs. Suggested Libation: Pellegrino or equivalent to cleanse the palate.
